voice for all

My love of voice came whilst actor training at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, under Claudette Williams. I learned to act, emotionally connect, discover my potential, and gain a passion for language in her voice lessons. I have worked as an actor for over a decade, always placing voice at the heart of what I do:

  •    technical voice skills ensure safety and consistency

  •    voice into text skills get the most out of scripts

  •    knowledge of vocal qualities gives endless character possibilities

  •    understanding breath and tension enables emotional connection

I wanted to share this passion with others, so chose to return to RCSSD to study on the world's number one training course for voice coaches, MA Voice Studies: Teaching & Coaching. Studying at a postgraduate level as a dyslexic person was a huge challenge, but instilled in me a thirst for knowledge and academic research. That research has focussed on decentring historical power structures in voice work and, as a Geordie speaker, a particular interest in accent bias. Going forward my aim is to share voice skills with all who desire them in an equitable and inclusive way, encouraging people to celebrate and feel pride in the unique beauty of their voice.

Theatre & TV Voice and Dialect coaching includes: 'PROTEST' Fuel Theatre/Northern Stage (2023 & 2024 tours); 'A SONG FOR ELLA GREY' Pilot Theatre/Northern Stage (2024 tour); COMEDY PILOT HatTrick/BBC (2023)

Recently/currently teaching and covering at drama schools and universities including: PPA Guildford, Identity School of Acting, Middlesex University Theatre Arts, York College, Fourth Monkey, Urdang, Leeds Conservatoire.
